Turkey 2013

Following the success of their inaugural trip to Saudi Arabia, on January 5th, 2013, the largest GLCM team ever, comprised of 17 members, arrived in Istanbul, Turkey. The objective of the trip was to understand the internal and external factors affecting the local construction industry and develop a SWOT analysis. The group visited various international and local companies like Nurol Construction Company, Alarko Construction Group, Zorlu Construction, Varyap Construction, Odak Construction, TAV Construction Company, and the Bosphorus University.


The trip commenced with cultural visits to Topkapi Palace, the center of the Ottomon Empire, the Hagia Sophia Mosque, Kapali Carsi, and the historic Beyoglu area. The following day, the team  visited the headquarters of Nurol Construction Company and the site of their ongoing Marmaray project. Later in the evening, the team team joined executives from Turner International at the Columbia Global Center.

The next day, the students attended a one hour presentation at the Alarko Holding Headquarters followed by an open discussion and a site visit to the Yenikapi- Taksim Metro Project. In the afternoon they visited Akturk Construction at their Zorlu project site.

Varyap Meridian: Office Visit

Following similar site visits and group discussions at Varyap Meridian, Odak Construction and TAV construction, the GLCM team visited Bosphorus University to have a discussion with the Civil Engineering and Construction Management students and faculty.

Site Visit to Yenikapi taksim Metro Project

The team concluded the trip by visiting Turner Construction office where they engaged in an open forum discussion and a site visit, where they were joined by representatives from Emaar Construction. Following the site visit, they visited Ozaltin Insaat for an hour long presentation on Gebze-Orhangazi-Izmir motorway.
